It’s easy to drift away. Like the metaphor of the frog sitting in water that gradually gets hotter, sometimes our spiritual sensitivity gets dulled, and we don’t realize how far we’ve gone until it’s nearly too late. That’s why Hebrews 2:10–18 is so powerful—it brings us back to the core of why Jesus came in human form and what it means for us today.
Hebrews 2:10 calls Him the Captain of our salvation. Another translation calls Him the Pioneer, because He didn’t just talk about redemption—He led the way by example. Jesus, though divine, took on the limitations of man. He didn’t lose His glory; He willingly laid it down (Philippians 2:6-8), only to take it back up and share it with us (John 17:20-24). When He rose and ascended, He didn’t hoard that glory—He invited us to share in it as co-heirs (Romans 8:17), not as thieves but as His bride.

The devil once held dominion over this world. But Hebrews 2:14-15 reveals that through Jesus’ death, He disarmed the one who held the power of death—that is, the devil. Jesus didn’t just visit humanity. He became fully human, sharing in our flesh and blood to destroy Satan’s grip and deliver us from fear and death (Colossians 2:15).
Jesus is not only our Savior; He is also our Brother (Hebrews 2:11) and our Sympathetic High Priest (Hebrews 2:17-18). He didn’t come to look down on us—He came to walk with us. He understands what it means to be tired, tempted, rejected, even betrayed. Yet, He remained sinless.
This humanity makes His priesthood powerful. We don’t pray to angels or depend on mystical guardians—we trust the One who conquered death and feels our pain. That’s a relationship that’s real, that transforms us, and that guards our hearts from drifting.
So when you feel the water warming slowly, when life’s comfort or chaos makes it hard to notice the shift—remember this: Jesus knows. He’s been where you are. And because He rose, you can rise with Him. Not just in the future, but now—in identity, in power, in shared glory.
